Building the Ham Radio; Helping Dad see color

Dad bought a Ham Radio that was “some assembly required” or in other words it was delivered as a kit and had to be assembled from scratch. The radio had hundreds if not thousands of transistors that had to be soldered on the board. The transistors had color stripes on them that told you what kind of transistor it was and where it when on the circuit board. Since Dad was color blind, he couldn’t tell the difference between some of the transistors and asked me to help him out. I was on the top of the world! Dad was asking me for help and it was actually something that I could help with! I remember helping to look through the parts and giving them to Dad and he would then solder them on to the circuit board. Afterword I always looked at the Ham radio with pride because I had helped build it. Also, I think that was part of the reason I decided that I liked computers and building things.
