Gave notice at Cabelas

After 3 months at Cabelas, I decided to tender my resignation. It has been an interesting experience for sure.  I really like dealing with the customers and most of my co-workers are awesome.  However, it has been a frustrating job because of a myriad of little annoyances that they and I are unable to resolve. None of these issues by themselves are a reason to quit (I haven’t quit a job in like 30 years) but added together it was a constant amount of annoyance and wasn’t worth it.  A lot of my co-workers upon hearing that I gave my notice and why then started listing their annoyances and guess what, they have similar lists! Everyone has seemed sorry to see me go and it goes against my natural negative instinct to think that I mostly annoy people and they would be happy that I’m leaving. I’m going to list a few items just to show how minor they are.

o All the guns have to be brought out from the back room and then put up at night. All the guns go onto the carts and are rolled into the back room to be “secured” There are a variety of different carts that are rolled down the isle in a specific order, but instead of numbering the carts to make it easy, everyone is expected to memorize the order of the carts.  As a result, the guns are mixed up and out of order when they are put up and brought back out.  It would be super simple to fix but Darren the supervisor refuses to do it.

o The screen savers on the computers come in after 15 minutes and require you to log in. So you either have to stand there and move the mouse or log back in when you need to use the computer. Problem is that there are usually 5 or 6 guys and to switch to your profile takes 3 or 4 minutes because the computers aren’t maintained.

o The password requirements on the computers are stupidly complex. The requirements are WAY tougher than they should be.  More complex than when I worked at Micron.

o The one employee that consistently annoys me (Jared) is a born again know it all. I’ve proven him wrong on several instances but he still insists on acting like he know everything. For example he insisted that Cabelas/Bass Pro Shop was a bigger company that Micron Technology. I had to pull up the stats and show him that an Fortune 500 international company with a market cap of $108 Billion was bigger than Cabelas with a market cap of $8 Billion.

o This list could go on an on, but those are a few of the highlights… 🙂  I will miss working with many of the people and customers for sure

That was actually the most suprising thing for me about this job was that my favorite part of the job was dealing with the customers.
