All said and done, it will save them about $100 a month which is a pretty large amount when you are on a fixed budget. Anyway, the day of the install finally arrived and while we were waiting for the installer, we were tasked with helping Roscoe put five loads of wood that was split and dried into his wood shed. By the time we were done, I was pretty tired. The installer showed up and once his portion was done, I had to make sure that everything would connect to the WI-FI router that I provided. Starlink had WI-FI built in, but I wanted to have control in case I wanted to setup a VPN or the like. It took a couple hours, but I got everything from the Firestick on their TV to their tablets and picture frame connected and verified that everthing worked. They did have to get a new phone number and we did our best to notify everyone of the change. We got everything completed and tested by about 3PM and headed back from Garden Valley to Boise.

After moving the wood

Right as we hit town I got a text from a member from church, Hunter, asking if Talon and I would be able to help a new family move in. We were pretty wiped out and told them that we would be unable to because of all the wood we moved. Once we got home and I had a bite to eat I was feeling a bit better and I received a prompting that I should go help. We were a little late but Stacia and I went over to lend a hand. While I was hauling in stuff I started talking to their oldest daughter, Hailey, who I would estimate was probably about 12 years old. She seemed sad and told me that she would really miss her only friend from Las Vegas. She also mentioned to me that she was an “oddball”. I told her that I too was an “oddball” and could sympathize with her. I noticed that they had a few boxes of boardgames and asked if they liked to play. Talking to Joel, the Dad, they really like Catan. I decided that I would make the family of the game Tetr_s that I found online.

Fast forward to the following Sunday and I spoke to Andrea, the Mom, about bringing over a house warming gift. The youngest daughter had a few 3D-Printed fidget toys and they were pretty excited that I had a 3D Printer.

As we were leaving to deliver the gifts, I decided to give Hailey a lizard that I had 3D printed. I didn’t have any gifts for any of the other kids but felt like she needed it. When I gave it to her, I told her it was from one “oddball” to another. She was grinning ear to ear and even gave me a hug and thanked me for it. As we were talking to the family she was telling me that she loved snakes and lizards and had even done a report at school on snakes. She was smiling the whole time! It isn’t often that I feel like I did good, but this was one of those times.

I got a few orders for the other kids on things they would like and last night Andrea sent Stacia a couple of pictures of her with the lizard on her shoulder. I’m thankful that I listened to the prompting and when to help with the move.

Talking with my Father-in-law, Roscoe, we decided to switch their internet service from Ziply Fiber to Starlink.
